Saturday Miscellany – 10/29/16

Odds ‘n ends over the week about books and reading that caught my eye. You’ve probably seen some/most/all of them, but just in case:

This Week’s New Release that I took note of:

  • The Terranauts by T.C. Boyle — Like every T.C. Boyle book for the last decade and a half or so, this looks like something I want to read and probably won’t.

Lastly, I’d like to say hi and welcome to Laine The Librarian for following the BookLikes version of blog this week.

  1. Ha, B&N can burn for all I care. I remember Daltons, that little store in the mall. Then b&n literally ate them alive. And their handling of their nook brand has been like watching a slow moving car crash with extra big oil tankers and garbage trucks. I had a nook but then they tried to start their own app store, ruined their .COM process and then locked everything the phrack up tighter than anything. I do hope they fail, as a lesson!

And that article on the various alternate names of novels was pretty cool…

    • Seeing what Border’s closing has done to mid-list authors (Hastings, too — but on a smaller scale), is the only reason I want to see B&N make it. Turning over the whole industry to Amazon can’t be good long-term. Indies can’t make that much of a difference on their own.
