Saturday Miscellany – 6/22/19

Runnin’ late — been running late all week, really. No time for an intro, really. Go directly to the links, do not pass go, do not collect $200. The odds ‘n ends over the week about books and reading that caught my eye. You’ve probably seen some/most/all of them, but just in case:

• How Reading Improves Your Health — from Read it Forward
• Audiobooks and Learning — Sure, Libro.fm isn’t exactly what you’d call unbiased about the topic, but…
• I’ve heard interviews with Adrian McKinty before, and he’s on my “get around to” list (I will, in July, guaranteed). I love this story — told here with some commentary The Persistent Writers Hall of Fame: Adrian McKinty or the LA Times shares the same info without the commentary about the writers who helped him: Former Uber driver’s thriller bought by Paramount for seven figures
• Hachette Book Group Changes Library E-book Terms — The third of the “Big 5” to do so. This is going to hurt.
• The Real Book Spy’s Top 10 Thrillers From the First Half of 2019 — Two off this list are on my TBR (I just have a sequel or two to get to before I can read these entries), thinking about a few of the others.
• Noir Tropes Are Alive and Well—And Powerful as Ever: How Today’s Writers Explore and Complicate the Noir Classics
• Let’s Talk About Reading Slumps
• 11 Things I Wish I Had Known Before I Started Book Blogging — Some of these I’ve known instinctively, some I’ve learned…some I need to learn (doesn’t mean I will, but I really should)
• What Not to Say When You Meet Your Favorite Author — the sad thing is, there’s probably a true story behind the items on this list I found most amusing. Very glad not to be either that author or fan.

This Week’s New Releases I’m Excited About and/or You’ll Probably See Here Soon:
• The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind by Jackson Ford: — A mouthy and fun psychokinetic is on the run for her life — and her friends’, too. I had a blast with this one, as I said here.
• FKA USA by Reed King — I’ve seen a ton of ads for this one, and the premise/tone intrigue me (go read the link, I’m not going to try to summarize in a sentence). Not sure, I’ll like it, but I’m quite curious.
