I saw this over at Books are 42, and I needed a break from looking backwards. Nice to look ahead a bit.
How Many Books Are You Planning on Reading in 2021?
200
That’s the goal I’ve set on Goodreads since 2017, have beat it each year since. Seems like a good one to stick with.
Name Five Books You Didn’t Get to Read in 2020 But Want to Make a Priority in 2021?
The Mermaid’s Pool by David Nolan
Troubled Blood by Robert Galbrieth
Evil Valley by Simon Hall
Fools Gold Ian Patrick
The Border by Don Winslow
Name a Genre You Want to Read More of in 2021?
Lad Lit/Lad Lit-type stuff.
I just like the headspace these books leave me in.
Three Non-Book Related Goals for 2021
Non-Book Related Goals? People have those?
Spend time with my family without most of them further than 6′ from me.
Get a different/better job. One I can grow in.
Drop the weight I’ve put on since I’ve started sheltering-in-place, regain the fitness I’ve lost (and had barely just begun to get!).
What’s a Book You’ve Had Forever That You Still Need to Read?
Stiletto by Daniel O’Malley
I’m pretty sure that I’ve mentioned this in one ortwo tags before for similar reasons. Clearly, it’s not working yet.
One Word That You Hope 2021 Will Be?
Irenic
As usual, I’m not tagging anyone in this—but I’d like to see what you all have to come up with.
Allyson Johnson
I have never done the Goodreads challenge before, but prompted by you I signed up to read 75 books. I think this is very doable and am already ahead by a book.
5 books I will make a priority in 2021: Homer’s “Odyssey” (assuming I finish the “Iliad”, Margaret Atwood’s “Penelopiad” (a worthy sequel to Homer, different POV, I’ve heard), “The Color of Law” by Richard Rothstein, “The Disorderly Knights” by Dorothy Dunnett(supposed to be one of the best volumes in “The Lymond Chronicles”, “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak.
A Book I’ve had forever but still need to read: “KIng Lear”. I’ve read ABOUT this Shakespeare tragedy but never read it or seen it performed.
What I hope 2021 will be – Unhistoric
HCNewton
“Unhistoric”. Yes, please.
I somehow ended up with 2 copies of The Book Thief, without trying–or even having an interest in it. I should probably read at least one of the copies.

What is lad lit?
and I’m sure I’ve said it before, but you really do need to get to Stiletto…
HCNewton
Think High Fidelity. Male version of Chick Lit. Typically youngish men (not not always) and their emotional lives, told in a humorous/light manner.

And yeah, I don’t know what’s wrong with me re: Stiletto
Kara Skinner
I feel like every bookworm has at least one book on the shelf that they want to read but has never gotten around to reading it for one reason or another so it’s just been gathering dust for years haha. Good luck with your goals! I hope you get around to reading Stiletto this year!
