This prompt was submitted by Elizabeteh @ Silver’s Reviews:
How many books have you read this year?
Well, as of last night, I’ve read and/or listened to…
290
books in 2021 but I’ve got another 15 days, so I’ll probably work in a few more.

I hadn’t been really paying attention to the cumulative total–just looked at the month by month numbers. I honestly went and double-checked my spreadsheet. Until I’d seen that number, I didn’t care about the yearly total–but now I can’t help but wonder, “is it possible to hit 300?”
I’ve promised myself that I won’t lean toward shorter and/or faster reads, instead I’ll stick to my plan. I’ll probably keep that promise.
Probably.

When I was teaching, I often got together with some of my 9th grade boys on Saturday mornings at the school gym for some basketball. I was a pretty good hooper, and in games of one-on-one, I rarely lost to any of my kids, and if I did, it was always by a close score . . . until one memorable day when a little kid named Raymond took me on and absolutely schooled me. He went around, past and over me at will, beating me by a score of 15-3. That feeling of being schooled came vividly back to me, H.C., when I learned that you have already read 290 books this year. Until then, I was feeling pretty good about those 30 or so books I’d managed to read in 2021. Way to put me in my place, man. Keep on readin’!
