It’s WWW Wednesday time already, eh? Twelve days into the year and I’m already 2 books behind schedule, but I’m catching up. Hopefully, by this time next week, I’ll be on schedule—maybe even ahead (it could happen, don’t laugh).

This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words—and shown to me by Aurore-Anne-Chehoke at Diary-of-a-black-city-girl.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Easy enough, right?

What are you currently reading?

I’m reading the ARC of The Accomplice by Lisa Lutz and am listening to Two Witches and a Whiskey by Annette Marie, Cris Dukehart (Narrator) on audiobook, which is a lot less intense.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Seanan McGuire’s Where the Drowned Girls Go, the latest Wayward Children novella, and The Curious Dispatch of Daniel Costello by Chris McDonald, Stephen Armstrong (Narrator) on audio—you may have seen me talk about the series a bit today.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Nice Dragons Finish Last by Rachel Aaron, I’m finally getting to it years after buying it, and my next audiobook should be Dark Queen by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator).

  1. I just finished re-reading Nevil Shute’s “Pied Piper” a go-to comfort book about good people coping with harsh times. I also finished Mary Renault’s “The Bull from the Sea”, a retelling of the Theseus myth starting after he returns to Athens after Killing the Minotaur (which is handled in an earlier book “The King Must Die”, which I have not read.) Interesting to see a different take on retelling Greek myths after reading two of Madeline Miller’s reimaginings.

I’m currently reading Jhumpa Lahiri’s “Whereabouts”, Lawrence Durrell’s “Justine”, and a collection of lectures by Richard Feynman, “6 Easy Pieces.” (They aren’t so easy, but my brain needs stretching after a bout of cabin fever last week.)

Next I have it in mind to finally read “The Book Thief”, on my TBR shelf for at least a year.

I tried Feynman a few times, but it just didn’t click with me–and I’ve always felt bad about that and have meant to come back to him. Is the brain-stretching worth the effort?

      • The brain-stretching gives me something to talk about with others besides Covid-19 or the deplorable state of politics, so yes, worthwhile. And it’s a window into another world, normally invisible to us – the world of galaxies and cosmic rays and nanoparticles and how they all interact. The worlds of fantasy and science fiction start here.

Things to talk about besides politics and COVID? I forget that’s possible….
