WWW Wednesday, March 30, 2022

A couple of books lately have taken a day or two longer than I’d anticipated, so I’ve had to shuffle the ol’ schedule for Book Tours, Library Due dates, etc. So this WWW Wednesday came along just in time for me to take a breath and make sure that schedule was right.

This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words—and shown to me by Aurore-Anne-Chehoke at Diary-of-a-black-city-girl.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Easy enough, right?

What are you currently reading?

I’m reading the stylish and cool Payback is Forever by Nick Kolakowski and am listening to 20/20 by Carl Goodman, Louise Brealey (Narrator) on audiobook, based on a friend’s recommendation.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished the Libby Fischer Hellmann’s DoubleBlind, a very gutsy thriller, and Murder Under Her Skin by Stephen Spotswood, Kirsten Potter (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Coming up next will be Duckett & Dyer: Dicks For Hire by G.M. Nair for a tour next week. It’s been too long since I spent time in the Magic 2.0 world, so my next audiobook should be Fight and Flight by Scott Meyer, Luke Daniels (Narrator).

How are you crusing into April?

  1. I’m currently reading Woody Allen’s autobiography “A Propos of Nothing” which is quite funny in spots and in others is an alternate view of the media circus which surrounded his relationship with Mia Farrow and subsequent relationship with Farrow’s adopted daughter Soon-Yi. The alternate view is quite believable, and makes me sorry I boycotted his movies for a time. (“Midnight in Paris” seduced me back, though.)

I’m also reading Paul Theroux’s “Ghost Train to the Eastern Star”, an attempt to revisit the places he told of in his first breakout travel book “The Great Railway Bazaar.” I didn’t love “Bazaar”, but couldn’t resist finding out what changes he registered in some of the same places I had visited.

I’m also nearly done with “Corelli’s Mandolin”, but have put it aside as it looks like the sad part is coming up,

I just finished Qiu Xiaolong’s “Shadow of the Empire” an attempt to revive the excellent Judge Dee mystery series by Robert van Gulik. I don’t recommend it (but I do recommend the books by van Gulik!) . I also finally finished Frank Herbert’s “The Book of the Hopi”, an anthropological study of the mystical Arizona tribe. Fascinating in parts, exhaustive in others.

Next I plan to read Kim Stanley Robinson’s “The Ministry for the Future.”
