Are you up for WWW Wednesday? Hope so, cuz here we go…

This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words—and shown to me by Aurore-Anne-Chehoke at Diary-of-a-black-city-girl.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Easy enough, right?

What are you currently reading?

I’m reading the last book in the Jane Yellowrock series, Final Heir by Faith Hunter. My current audiobook is Grave Reservations by Cherie Priest, Ulka Simone Mohanty.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Chris McDonald’s Roses for the Dead, a great conclusion to the trilogy; and the quick hit of goodness that was The Heron by Don Winslow, Ed Harris (Narrator), on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be The Art of Prophecy by Wesley Chu, which just looks great, and my next audiobook should be Out of Spite, Out of Mind by Scott Meyer, Luke Daniels (Narrator), which is hopefully an improvement over the previous one in the series.

Hope you’re reading something good, tell me about it!

Oh,good. Hope you enjoy! I’m really diggwthese Audible Shorts he and Harris are doing.

  2. Oooh, I don’t do audiobooks, but one narrated by Ed Harris! How cool is that!

Just finished reading (finally) Peter Hessler’s “Oracle Bones” a series of essays and encounters between Hessler and a number of mainland Chinese inhabitants and emigres. If you are interested in the looking-glass world of China during the period that includes the consequences of the Cultural Revolution, the Chinese reaction to the Kosovo bombing and to 9-11, and the crackdown against the Muslim Uighurs in far-west Xinjiang, you can do no better than this.

Also enjoyed another guilty pleasure, a re-read of Georgette Heyer’s “the Unknown Ajax” featuring an unlikely Regency romance hero who is neither dark, saturnine, nor humorless. A fun go.

Currently I am still reading Mark Halperin’s “A Soldier of the Great War”. I’m taking it with me on Kindle on this week’s camping trip, and resolve to make great progress (but I have a few cheaters tucked into my duffel bag as well).

Next I might read Alice Munro’s “Flo and Rose” collection of linked short stories. Or T. C. Boyle’s “Tortilla Curtain.” Both have been on my TBR shelf for quite a while.

Harris isn’t the greatest narrator out there, but he is really good. His voice brings out just the right notes in these stories by Winslow–he’s done three of them, each with a very different tone and he’s nailed the narration on each. It’s very cool.

Keep mentioning Oracle Bones and you’re going to get me to read it. 🙂 It does sound really good.

Hope the camping trip goes well–and that you can find a little Kindle time.
