I’m not sure that I have anything to ramble on about before the main event today, so let’s just dive into the triple Ws.
This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words—and shown to me by Aurore-Anne-Chehoke at Diary-of-a-black-city-girl.
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Easy enough, right?
What are you currently reading?
I’m reading the new Sunny Randall book from the new Sunny Randall author: Robert B. Parker’s Bad Influence by Alison Gaylin and am listening to the intriguing If I Understood You, Would I Have This Look on My Face?: My Adventures in the Art and Science of Relating and Communicating by Alan Alda (Narrator) on audiobook.
What did you recently finish reading?
The most recent books I’ve finished are David Rosenfelt’s Flop Dead Gorgeous and It’s Great to Suck at Something by Karen Rinaldi on audio.
What do you think you’ll read next?
My next book should be The Worst Man by Jon Rance because I forgot that it’s what I put here last week. Oops. And my next audiobook should be Murder Your Employer: The McMasters Guide to Homicide by Rupert Holmes (yeah, it turns out, that one), Narrated by Neil Patrick Harris and Simon Vance.

About thirty minutes ago, I downloaded the free sample of that new Sunny Randall book, H.C. I’m looking forward to your review.

Am about 1/2 done. Freakishly smooth read. Feeling positive so far

I”m currently reading “Her Honor” by LaDoris Cordell, the first black woman judge in California. It’s a fascinating collection of anecdotes about her judicial career, opinions about what is wrong with our judicial system, and suggestions about how to fix it. I also just started “I Am the Cheese” by Robert Gormier, which I picked up off the 25 cent book cart with a hazy recollection that it is supposed to be a modern classic. I am also reading Ann Patchett’s charming collection of essays “These Precious Days.” And, story by story, Nadine Gordimer’s short story collection “Jump.”
I just finished reading “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith, a “classic” which I would have appreciated more if I had read it fifty years sooner. I also reread by accident Ian McEwan’s “The Children Case” – accident because I didn’t remember having read it eight years ago. My review from eight years ago said “This is the dampest book I ever read” and gave it two stars; I might have upped it to three stars this round but it’s still soggy (endless rain, endless tears).
Next I will read “Horse” by Geraldine Brooks, and “The Lost” by Daniel Mendelsohn.

Love the soggy description.
I remember reading I Am the Cheese because of that’s a title that sticks–and pretty sure I read every Corimer I could get my hands on. I probably read it a few times, actually. I remember nothing else about it, however. Hope it’s semi-decent.
