I’d make some joke about books being my true Valentine or something here, but Mrs. Irresponsible Reader reads this occasionally—and why test her sense of humor?

This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words—and shown to me by Aurore-Anne-Chehoke at Diary-of-a-black-city-girl.

The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Seems easy enough, right? Let’s take a peek at this week’s answers:

What are you currently reading?

I’m (really) finally reading City on Fire by Don Winslow (yeah, I said I was reading it last week, but as soon as I started I was reminded of a looming Library due date), and I’m listening to Another Girl by Peter Grainger, read by Gildart Jackson on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Heather Fawcett’s Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands and the great Soundtrack of Silence: Love, Loss, and a Playlist for Life by Matt Hay on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be A Quantum Love Story by Mike Chen, and boy howdy, am I eager to dive in. My next audiobook should be Spells for the Dead by Faith Hunter, read by Khristine Hvam—I can’t believe it’s been three years since this came out, I need to refresh my memory a bit before I dive into the next one.

  1. I just finished up Commodore Hornblower, started Systematic Theology by Gruden (my lunch read, should take a year or so to work through) and I’ll start the first Dumarest story by Tubb tomorrow on my kindle.

  2. I’m late on this due to a bunch of Valentine-y distractions. Onward!

Currently reading Verghese’s “The Covenant of Water”, finding it alternately involving, intriguing, and infuriating (I increasingly dislike having to jump back and forth in time and in point of view – why not just tell the story?) Also plodding through McINtyre’s “The Spy and the Traitor” – I would be putting this into the DNF pile were it not for several friends who enthused “The last two chapters are thrilling!” I suspect I’ll be skimming a bunch until I get to them. (I”m on page 162).

I zipped through Tony Hillerman’s “Finding Moon” a quick exploration of the chaotic impact of the US departure from Viet Nam. No Navajo police, but an oddly Jack Reacher-like protagonist in Moon Matthias. Just as well this was Moon’s only appearance – he’s basically a big guy with mechanical smarts, but it’s the minor characters who drive the action. This should NOT be your introduction to Hillerman!

Next I swear I will read something from my TBR shelf.

Those last two chapters had better be worth it.

I keep seeing that Verghese book cover everywhere lately, is it worth being infuriated?

Finding Moon sounds intriguing, but so atypical for what I know of Hillerman, probably not a good intro, no.
