I’m reading the ARC for The Twelve Monotasks: Do One Thing at a Time to Do Everything Better by Thatcher Wine and am listening to Super Powereds: Year 1 by Drew Hayes, Kyle McCarley (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Rick Riordan’s Daughter of the Deep (which was exactly what I needed to keep me reading his stuff) and The Astonishing Mistakes of Dahlia Moss by Max Wirestone, Lauren Fortgang (Narrator) on audio (a different narrator for this book, and maybe a better one).

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be All the Lonely People by Mike Gayle—it’s been over a decade since I’ve read Gayle, and am eager to see how he’s developed. Wrapping up my Alex Verus revisit just in time for the finale coming out in December, my next audiobook should be Forged by Benedict Jacka, Gildart Jackson (Narrator).

How are you spending this holiday week (if you’re in the U.S.)? I’m curious about the rest of the world, too, but it feels awkward to ask how you’re spending a perfectly generic week…

There’s not as much turnover from last week’s WWW Wednesday to today’s for my taste. Every book this month (text or audio) has taken/is taking me longer to get through than I expected. Not a big deal, just one of those things…anyhow, here’s this week’s WWW:

I’m reading The Tower, the Zoo, and the Tortoise by Julia Stuart and am listening to The Astonishing Mistakes of Dahlia Moss by Max Wirestone, Lauren Fortgang (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Michael Connelly’s The Dark Hours—a very timely book—and Master of Formalities by Scott Meyer, Luke Daniels (Narrator) on audio. Oddly for a Meyer book, I’m not sure what to think yet.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan—I don’t know if I can do another mythology book from him anytime soon, but I’m curious about this. I’m also curious about my next audiobook Super Powereds: Year 1 by Drew Hayes, Kyle McCarley (Narrator).

Speaking of curious—what’re you reading?

Maybe it’s the whole end of DST thing, but my sleep has been out of whack for a couple of days, which is making it difficult to post anything. I’d intended to spend my lunch hour cleaning up a post for today, but I got my eyes dilated this morning, and they’re not focusing very well yet. So much for that idea. At least I’d already assembled this for WWW Wednesday, right?

I’m reading the incredibly fun Love & Bullets: Megabomb Edition by Nick Kolakowski and am listening to Master of Formalities by Scott Meyer, Luke Daniels (Narrator) on audiobook (which is likely to be as fun, I’m not that far into it yet, so I don’t know).

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Richard Osman’s The Man Who Died Twice—which was spectacular—and the entertaining The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss by Max Wirestone, Lauren Fortgang (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m looking forward to seeing what Renee Ballard is up to in my next read, The Dark Hours by Michael Connelly. My next audiobook should be The Astonishing Mistakes of Dahlia Moss by Max Wirestone, Lauren Fortgang (Narrator).

I’m reading The Appeal by Janice Hallett, it is unlike any crime novel that I’ve ever read. I’m listening to Shadow Writes by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator) on audiobook for my monthly check-in with Jane Yellowrock.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Chuck Wendig’s creepy and goofy Dust & Grim and The Case of the Missing Marquess by Nancy Springer, Katherine Kellgren (Narrator) on audio–which was fun but left me wanting a bit more.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be another dose of septuagenarian fun with The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman and I have no idea what my next audiobook will be, I’m not feeling incredibly inspired by anything I”m seeing.

The wheels have really come off of my plans for the week–boh in terms of writing and reading. Real Life can be such a drag, you know? But we’re at the mid-point, and hopefully, I can recover a bit. And if not? At least I’m spending some time with these good books that I’m about to talk about in this WWW Wednesday.

I’m reading the third DetectiveEve Ronin thriller, Gated Prey by Lee Goldberg, and am listening to book about a woman on the other side of the law, Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano, Angela Dawe (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Stephan Pastis’s Squirrel Do Bad, a MG Graphic Novel, and Dark Arts and a Daiquiri by Annette Marie, Cris Dukehart (Narrator), another adventure for Tori and her mystik pals on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Dust & Grim by Chuck Wendig—which might be a bit too much MG in one week for me, but library due dates are calling the shots, you know? My next audiobook should be Fallen by Benedict Jacka, Gildart Jackson (Narrator), as I get close to wrapping up this re-read through the series.

How are you spending the last week of October?

Prepping for these WWW Wednesday posts can sometimes cause me a little headache. For example, when I finished my most recent read, I didn’t know what to read next. I have a shelf-and-a-half of TBR books staring me in the face (plus a couple of handfuls on my e-reader), and I do want to read them all, just not now. I picked 3 or 4 that I would want to read after my next one, but I wanted something else for now. Does that make sense? In the end, I went with something that will get me closer to finishing the While I Was Reading Challenge for the year—and it turned out to be just the right choice. Still a mystery, but different in tone, structure, and approach than anything I’ve read in years. A good palate cleanser.

Not quite a slump, but it’s as close as I’ve been to one in ages. Shall we get on with with it?

I’m reading The Case of the One-Eyed Witness by Erle Stanley Gardner—fairly sure this is the first time I’ve read this one (and if not, it was pre-1995, so it might as well be—and I’m listening to Breaking Silence by Linda Castillo, Kathleen McInerney (Narrator) on audiobook, time for more mayhem in Amish Country.

I just finished Jo Perry’s Everything Happens novella and Dark Heir by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the Western-Zomie-Steampunk sequel Bodacious Creed and the Jade Lake by Jonathan Fesmire and my next audiobook should be a return to the Guild Codex with Dark Arts and a Daiquiri by Annette Marie, Cris Dukehart (Narrator).

I’m reading the tribute to post-NIrvana grunge Grenade Bouquets by Lee Matthew Goldberg and am listening to the memoir Based on a True Story by Norm Macdonald (Narrator) on audiobook (yeah, I feel like jumping on a bandwagon after his death, which is probably why my library just bought it).

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Nick Petrie’s Tear it Down and had a blast with it. Listening to A Good Day for Chardonnay by Darynda Jones, Lorelei King (Narrator) on audio last week was plenty of fun, too.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Abandon All Hope by Scott Spires and my next audiobook should be my monthly Jane Yellowrock check-in, Dark Heir by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator).

Are you reading/listening to anything good at the moment?

It’s time for the last WWW Wednesday of September. It really slipped up on me–I’d have told you that there were a handful more days left in the month while still knowing that next week is October. Anyone else’s brain this messed up?

I’m reading Daughter of the Morning Star by Craig Johnson, there are few fictional places I enjoy visiting than Absaroka County and its sheriff’s department. I am listening to Out of House and Home by Drew Hayes, Kirby Heyborne (Narrator) on audiobook—it’s nice to catch up with Fred and the gang, too.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Jennifer Lynn Barnes’s The Hawthorne Legacy, the sequel to that twisty YA novel. I also just revisited The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman, Lesley Manville (Narrator) on audio in advance of getting my hands on that sequel (I really should’ve done the same for the Barnes book, it took me a while to reorient myself).

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be a hoot—Fan Fiction by Brent Spiner. My next audiobook is up in the air—I’ve got a lot of time on the road scheduled for the next week or so, and I imagine we’ll be listening to one or two audiobooks.

The last two weeks have basically been full of me staring at my laptop screen, unable to get words to come out. That’s an exaggeration of sorts, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. What’s worse, is that I’m excited about just about everything I’ve been trying to write about.

That’s one of the nice things about these WWW Wednesday posts, they require very little thought. Also, they’re fun to do apart from their ease. So, I”m going to give myself a little reprieve, schedule this and then catch some shut eye and try again tomorrow.

What’ve you been reading this week?

Assembling furniture always takes a lot longer than it should, right? Last night, I got a desk halfway assembled when I noticed I’d switched a couple of legs in step 2. So had to disassemble it, redo that part and then complete the desk. Then, when I got to the last step, I realized that I’d actually had the legs in the right spots earlier, they were just backward—sooo back to the beginning one more time. I got it finished, and am just ignoring the extra parts…

This is just to say, that I didn’t have time to get anything scheduled last night, but here’s a quick WWW Wednesday!

I just finished Spencer Quinn’s It’s a Wonderful Woof (a little more Christmas in September) and Bound by Benedict Jacka, Gildart Jackson (Narrator) on audio.

My next book should be Pug Actually by Matt Dunn (because I apparently can’t go more than one novel lately without a dog on the cover) and my next audiobook should be Word by Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries by Kory Stamper on audiobook which looks like a nerdy kind of fun.
