I’m reading Jacked: An Anthology of Crime Fiction edited by Vern Smith and In a House of Lies by Ian Rankin. I’m currently listening to (when I’m not pausing to laugh at) Black Nerd Problems by William Evans & Omar Holmon on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Eli Cranor’s devastatingly good Don’t Know Tough and Magic Kingdom for Sale–Sold! by Terry Brooks, Jeremy Arthur (Narrator) on audio—which was a nice stroll down memory lane.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be A Snake in the Raspberry Patch by Joanne Jackson (I was supposed to read it a month ago). I’m looking forward to my audiobook, A Line to Kill by Anthony Horowitz, Rory Kinnear (Narrator).

Hey, you hoopy froods, what are you reading?

As I sat down to write posts for today last night, I kept getting distracted by Primary Election results—in Idaho, for good or ill, the Republican Primary election is more important than the General Election in November—state races are all but certain after it. So for every half-sentence I write, I end up spending 5 minutes looking at numbers—who knows what I’ll get written for today. At the very least, I cobbled together a WWW Wednesday.

I’m reading the fantasy novel The Traitor’s Heir by Anna Thayer and am listening to the very amusing This Is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Young Doctor by Adam Kay on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I grabbed the wrong book off the shelf last week, so the last book I finished was J.C. Jackson’s Conjured Defense and yesterday I finished Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson, Marin Ireland (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the UF short story collection, Heroic Hearts edited by Jim Butcher and Kerrie Hughes, and my next audiobook should be Magic Kingdom for Sale–Sold! by Terry Brooks, Jeremy Arthur (Narrator). I read that a few dozen times in the last century, and figured it was time to revisit.

Hopefully, you’re not as distracted as I am (unless you want to be)—what are you reading?

It’s the middle of the week, the day where I figure out just where I am and what I’m doing next and tell you about it. It’s a good exercise and for at least 15 minutes I feel like I have a handle on things. It’s a little thing I like to call WWW Wednesday! (I like to call it that because that’s its name, I’m funny that way)

I’m reading the fourth Bree Taggert novel, Right Behind Her by Melinda Leigh, and I’m listening to the disturbing Limelight by Carl Goodman, Louise Brealey (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

Yesterday, I finished Mike Lupica’s Robert B. Parker’s Revenge Tour, which was more than I hoped, and Funny Farm: My Unexpected Life with 600 Rescue Animals by Laurie Zaleski, Erin Moon (Narrator) on audio, which was not at all what I expected.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be The Traitor’s Heir by Anna Thayer, for that 12 Books Challenge. My next audiobook should be Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson, Marin Ireland (Narrator), something I’ve been thinking about for a while.

And what about you?

It’s a special Star Wars Day edition of WWW Wednesday! Well, okay, it’s not—I couldn’t come up with enough puns/riffs based on Star Wars to justify it, but everything else today has Star Wars plastered all over it, I had to go along, right?

At work this week, there’s stuff going on preventing me from listening to audiobooks—I’m glad to be occupied, but I’m really enjoying my current listen and am frustrated that it’s taking so long to find out what’s going to happen. The last 3 books I’ve read have taken 1-2 days longer than I expected, too (well, except the novella, which only took 30 more minutes than expected, still…). Not a big deal, but it feels like I’m behind on things—due to an imaginary self-imposed schedule. It’s stupid, but that’s where my mind is the last two weeks. Anyone else ever feel that way?

I’m reading the very Mr. Penumbra-esque The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd and am listening to Tuesday Mooney Talks To Ghosts by Kate Racculia, Lauren Fortgang (Narrator) on audiobook, which is very strange and very addicting.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Paul Cornell’s Rosebud, which is about as far away from Lucas’ creation as you can get in SF. The last audiobook I finished was Taming Demons for Beginners by Annette Marie, Cris Dukehart (Narrator) on audio, which I ended up liking more than I indicated last week.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Robert B. Parker’s Revenge Tour by Mike Lupica, his fourth (and final) take on Sunny Randall and my next audiobook should be Funny Farm: My Unexpected Life with 600 Rescue Animals by Laurie Zaleski, Erin Moon (Narrator).

Is the Force with you on any of your recent/current reads? (ha! got one reference in)

We are in the backstretch of this week, the last of April, and I keep finding myself making plans for June and July, as if May doesn’t even exist. This is a little ironic, because I’ve got a lot of commitments lined up for May. Maybe it’s because I have so much of the month already scheduled that I can’t focus on it. I was going somewhere when I started this paragraph, and I can’t remember where it was. Guess that means that it’s time to get on with the WWW Wednesday of it all.

I’m reading Of Claws and Fangs: Stories from the World of Jane Yellowrock and Soulwood by Faith Hunter for a Book Tour next week and am listening to Taming Demons for Beginners by Annette Marie, Cris Dukehart (Narrator) on audiobook (if I wasn’t really curious about other parts of this series, I’m not sure I’d stick it out—this protagonist is doing nothing but making foolish/stupid moves—I have to pause occasionally just to growl at her).

I just finished K.J. Parker’s surprising Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City and the classic The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien, Andy Serkis (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be The Knave of Secrets by Alex Livingston—also for a Book Tour next week—and my next audiobook should be Tuesday Mooney Talks To Ghosts by Kate Racculia, Lauren Fortgang (Narrator)—which has been on my TBR forever, and I just stumbled onto the audiobook. Yay!

What about you? Anything good?

The theme for the week around my home has been tired–my youngest spent a couple of days in the hospital this weekend thanks to a common cold knocking his immuno-suppressed body for a loop. Something nobody tells you about getting a kidney transplant–sure you get a new lease on life, but every now and then some random and relatively wimpy virus can put you down for days. While he’s recovering, we are, too–to a much lesser extent. Still, it’s surprising how much of a toll just sitting in a hospital room for a day can take. Nevertheless, I’ve managed to do a little reading (and less writing, but I’ll catch up sometime…maybe).

I’m reading the atmospheric Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger and am wrapping up the trilogy with The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien, Andy Serkis (Narrator) on audiobook.

I finally finished Chas Smith’s Blessed Are the Bank Robbers: The True Adventures of an Evangelical Outlaw (although I did read two other books while working on it). I also just finished Goodbye, Things: The New Japanese Minimalism by Fumio Sasaki, Eriko Sugita (Translator), Keith Szarabajka (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be “Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City by K.J. Parker and I’m not sure what audiobook is next, it’s going to be a while before I get through the one I’m working on.

I’m also listening to How to Be Perfect: The Correct Answer to Every Moral Question written and narratoed by Michael Schur (with Kristen Bell, D’Arcy Carden, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, Manny Jacinto, Marc Evan Jackson, Jameela Jamil and Todd May) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished A. Lee Martinez by Constance Verity Destroys the Universe (and will hopefully get a post about that up anytime now) and Meat is Murder by Chris McDonald, Stephen Armstrong (Narrator) on audio.

How are you spending the days before the dreaded April 15th?

This WWW Wednesday doesn’t look quite like I expected, which is a good thing. I’ve had a little more time on my hands this week than I expected, so I’m about a day ahead of schedule–I’ve found myself at the top of the reserve line for more books than I expected lately, so I’m glad to get ahead.

I’m reading Under Lock & Skeleton Key by Gigi Pandian –it’s starting slow, but I think it’s about to take off and knock my socks off. I’m listening to Fight and Flight by Scott Meyer, Luke Daniels (Narrator) on audiobook–I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to get back to this series, and I’m a little annoyed with myself.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished David Rosenfelt’s Citizen K-9, hopefully my post about it has gone up by now (we’ll see how productive I got last night). My last audiobook was 20/20 by Carl Goodman, Louise Brealey (Narrator), which is not your typical police procedural (and yet really is).

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the long-awaited Constance Verity Destroys the Universe by A. Lee Martinez and my next audiobook should be Dead in the Water by Chris McDonald, Stephen Armstrong (Narrator).

How are you crusing into April?

Spring has sprung, and sure, that’s messing with my Seasonal Allergies, but I’ll take it. I just stuck my head outside to get the dogs in and I’m going to have a hard time convincing myself to go back to work here in a few minutes…I was able to hold my attention together long enough to remember that it’s time for a WWW Wednesday, tnough.
