Another day without a “real” post. The struggle with my new schedule continues–I really thought I had a post ready to go today, I just needed a bit more work. And then I started reading, and didn’t get around to writing. I’m on a roll when it comes to books—not sure it’ll be enough for the 20 Books of Summer, but it’ll be close. It helps that I’ve hit a streak of good ones, too. Let’s take a quick look at some of them with this WWW Wednesday!

I’m reading very fun and charming The Good Byline by Jill Orr and am listening to the mildly amusing In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished a couple of books that didn’t hold back the shocking moments: David Nolan’s The Mermaid’s Pool and Cold Wind by C. J. Box, David Chandler (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the third Sam Batford novel, Fools Gold by Ian Patrick, and my next audiobook might be Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors by Annette Marie, Rob Jacobsen and Narrated by Iggy Toma if I the hold comes through at the Library—otherwise, I have no idea.

How are you wrapping up the month?

Don’t have the time/energy for much today, but I think I can fit in WWW Wednesday…

I’m reading an ARC of the twentieth Jesse Stone novel, Robert B. Parker’s Stone’s Throw by Mike Lupica and am listening to Burned by Benedict Jacka, Gildart Jackson (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished one of the noirest noirs I can remember, J. Todd Scott’s The Far Empty and Pray for Silence by Linda Castillo, Kathleen McInerney (Narrator) on audio—which is pretty disturbing, too.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Love by Roddy Doyle—outside of periodic re-reads, I haven’t read Doyle this century. It’s about time I fix that. My next audiobook should be Kill All the Lawyers by Paul Levine, William Dufris (Narrator).

Are you reading anything good?

So, it’s a little too early to really know how things are going to change with the new job as far as time for books and audiobooks—but I can tell you how it’s going this week. I’ve found about the same time to read—it’s shifted and in different sized chunks. So that’s a relief. But audiobook-time has taken a dive, maybe this week I’ll be able to finish the not-very-long book that I started Friday. In the midst of all the personal upheaval, one thing has remained constant—it’s time for WWW Wednesday!

I’m reading The Dead House by Harry Bingham, the next novel in one of those series that I keep getting distracted from, and I’m listening to The Deep Blue Alibi by Paul Levine, William Dufris (Narrator) on audiobook—switching narrators from the first book threw me a little, but am enjoying it (when I can listen).

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Andy Abramowitz’s A Beginner’s Guide to Free Fall and Black Arts by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be The Far Empty by J. Todd Scott and my next audiobook (assuming I ever finish The Deep Blue Alibi) should be Burned by Benedict Jacka, Gildart Jackson (Narrator).

I’m reading The Ninja’s Blade by Tori Eldridge—which starts off in a really compelling way—and am listening to Black Arts by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished the ARC Paper & Blood—it’s a doozy—and Solomon vs. Lord by Paul Levine, Christopher Lane (Narrator) on audio—which is as fun as I remember, I think I last read it 13 years ago.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Twice Cursed by J. C. Jackson and my next audiobook should be The Deep Blue Alibi by Paul Levine, William Dufris (Narrator).

How are you starting this month?

Wait, it’s July 28th already? I’m not ready for that in several ways–can we get a recount? A mulligan? A giant “Pause” button? Time for the last WWW Wednesday of July!

I’m reading The Magnificent Nine by James Lovegrave—nothing like a little time with the crew of Serenity—and am wrapping up Wisp of a Thing by Alex Bledsoe, Stefan Rudnicki (Narrator) up on audiobook.

What are you doing to wrap up the month?

The month is melting away and I’m starting to worry about my reading goal for the month (which is about as lame as it sounds, I realize, but that’s where I am). Returning to the office has really messed with my reading, and has wrecked my audiobook listening, so not a lot has changed since last week, but, still it’s time for WWW Wednesday!

After 15 months of telecommuting, I’m back to just commuting–this is wrecking my sleep and reading–and therefore blogging–habits. I’m still managing to do some of all three, but I’m having to make plenty of adjustments. Which is why things are a little light here this week. I just finished Andy Redsmith’s Know Your Rites and the audiobook of Tales from the Folly by Ben Aaronovitch read by Aaronovitch and: Penelope Rawlins, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Alex Kingston, Ben Elliot, Shvorne Marks, Sam Peter Jackson, and Felix Grainger.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be August Snow by Stephen Mack Jones, I’m looking forward to seeing what waits for me there. My next audiobook should be The Drifter by Nick Petrie, Stephen Mendel (Narrator) (largely because my library just added it to their Overdrive collection)..

What about you? Reading anything good?

I’m writing from a refreshingly chilly hotel 607 miles south(ish) from home, in Cedar City, UT. The trip is making things a little strange on the reading front (and non-existent on the audiobook front)–but I still think I have enough fodder for July’s first WWW Wednesday!

I just finished Liam Perrin’s Sir Thomas the Hesitant and the Table of Less Valued Knights and last week I wrapped up Blood Trade by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be The Good Byline by Jill Orr (another book I meant to read two years ago) and if we have time on the return trip, we’ll listen to An Accidental Death by Peter Grainger, Gildart Jackson (Narrator), because my wife should meet DC Smith–otherwise, I have no idea what I’m doing next.

I’m reading the fifth Ben Bracken novel, The Watchman by Rob Parker, and am continuing my march through the Jane Yellowrock series by listening to Blood Trade by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator) on audiobook.

I just finished Spencer Quinn’s Tender is the Bite (my post about that should have gone up a couple of hours ago) and OCDaniel by Wesley King, Ramon De Ocampo (Narrator) on audio—a great YA read.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be In Plain Sight by Dan Willis—the start of a promising-looking series. Yes, I’ve said that before, but I shouldn’t get distracted this time. I have no idea what my next audiobook is going to be—I’m on a road trip with Mrs. Irresponsible Reader next week, we’ll probably listen to something, but it’s TBD.

I’m reading Dead Ground by M. W. Craven, and if I believed in an Id, mine would be screaming at me for taking time to do anything but read it for the next 200+ pages (like compiling this post). I’m also going through Hidden by Benedict Jacka, Gildard Jackson (Narrator) on audiobook.

I just finished Rob Parker’s Till Morning is Nigh, probably the best of the bunch. I also finally finished Scarface and the Untouchable: Al Capone, Eliot Ness, and the Battle for Chicago by Max Allan Collins and A. Brad Schwartz, Stefan Rudnicki (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Dog Eat Dog by David Rosenfelt (you have to wonder how he waited for the 22nd book to use this title) and my next audiobook should be Death’s Rival by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator) as I continue to revisit the Jane Yellowrock series in audio.
