I’m reading The Particulars of Peter: Dance Lessons, DNA Tests, and Other Excuses to Hang Out with My Perfect Dog by Kelly Conaboy—a book only marginally longer than its title—and am listening to No Country for Old Gnomes by Delilah S. Dawson & Kevin Hearne, Luke Daniels (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished (and thoroughly enjoyed) Duncan MacMaster’s Drop the Mikes and the blast from the past, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Jesse Bernstein (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the last of the Toccata System trilogy, Progigal Storm by Kate Sheeran Swed, and Slow Horses by Mick Herron, Gerard Doyle (Narrator) on audiobook. I need to refresh myself on this book so I can get serious about the series before a friend locks me into a small room for a week with no internet and only a stack of these books.

What about you—how’re you closing out this month? What does April have in store for you?

Last week, we had Pi Day, The Ides of March, St. Patrick’s Day, and the Spring Equinox. This week? Um…Crickets. March takes all the interesting days and puts them in a row. The best I can find for today is that it’s the twelfth Wednesday of 2021 and it’s World Tuberculosis Day. I don’t know about you, but I forgot to get Tuberculosis a card. Maybe I’ll just settle for a WWW Wednesday, instead of attempting the herculean task of hunting for a Belated World Tuberculosis Day Greeting Card

I just finished the ARC for David Rosenfelt;s Animal Instinct and was blown away by Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke, J. D. Jackson (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

There are 3 books yet that I hope to read this week, which is probably not going to happen. So I need to be responsible, I have a Book Tour Stop on Monday, so my next book should be Dead in the Water by Chris McDonald (responsible should always be as fun as the Stonebridge Mysteries). Then, because I need a change of pace—The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Jesse Bernstein (Narrator) on audiobook.

I just finished M. W. Craven’s fantastic Born in a Burial Gown and Cursed by Benedict Jacka, Gildart Jackson (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Animal Instinct by David Rosenfelt and some sort of audiobook, we’ll see if any of my Library holds come in.

Yeah, the call-and-response thing works better for Howdy Doody, doesn’t it? I’d had this prepped and scheduled then at midnight I closed the book on The Treadstone Resurrection and had to do a quick update. Because I’m just that committed to accuracy.*

* and, yeah, it’s a good way to procrastinate.

I’m reading Burying the Newspaper Man by Curtis Ippolito for a Tour Stop next week and am listening to The Rags of Time by Peter Grainger, Gildart Jackson (Narrator) on audiobook—part my favorite audio series by far.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished a thriller, Joshua Hoods’s The Treadstone Resurrection, and the near polar-opposite, Paper: Paging Through History by Mark Kurlansky, Andrew Garman (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be something I’ve been wanting to start for months, Born in a Burial Gown by M. W. Craven and You’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about Racism written and narrated by Amber Ruffin & Lacey Lamar on audiobook—my wife tells me it’s a great mix of something that made her laugh and made her angry.

I’m reading Calculated Risks by Seanan McGuire and am listening to the new Audible novella Junkyard Bargain by Faith Hunter, Khristine Hvam (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Ben Aaronovitch’s What Abigail Did That Summer and The Unkindest Tide by Seanan McGuire, Mary Robinette Kowal (Narrator) on audio (and there were a couple of the moments I most looked forward to hearing Kowal’s take on, they did not disappoint).

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Drop the Mikes by Duncan MacMaster–I fully expect to rave about it next week–and Paper: Paging Through History by Mark Kurlansky, Andrew Garman (Narrator) on audiobook (not just because I love the irony, but that helps).

I’m reading Cover Blown by Ian Robinson—hot off the press—and am listening to Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore by Matthew Sullivan, Madeleine Maby (Narrator) on audiobook—something I’ve been meaning to read for 2-3 years.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club—a charming and clever novel—and Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs, Lorelei King (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

In a very strange confluence of schedules, Seanan McGuire’s two bigger series are next on my lists—next up are her Calculated Risks and The Unkindest Tide (Narrated by Robinette Kowal) as I almost complete my trip through the Toby Daye audiobooks. Thankfully those series don’t feel like they’re written by the same person, so I’m not going to have a problem (I think).

What are you reading?

A three-day weekend left me scrambling to get together a WWW Wednesday before I was really mentally prepared for it. I don’t know about you, but I took advantage of that bonus day to read more than I expected to, which made the day all the nicer.

I’m reading Latent Damage by Ian Robinson, a new police procedural, and am listening to the last Eddie LaCrosse novel—He Drank, and Saw the Spider by Alex Bledsoe, Stefan Rudnicki (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Sara Gran’s Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead, an unusual P.I. novel, and Blood Trail by C.J. Box, David Chandler (Narrator) on audio—possibly the best in the series.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Oh, That Shotgun Sky by Sarah Chorn (which will probably be beautiful and depressing, because that seems to be her wheelhouse) and an audiobook to be determined.

I’m reading Smoke by Joe Ide, an Isaiah Quintable novel that is pretty low on Isaiah (so far) and am listening to Blood Trail by C.J. Box, David Chandler (Narrator) on audiobook, it was time to get back to Wyoming.

I just finished Kate Sherran Swed’s Parting Shadows and Fated by Benedict Jacka, Gildart Jackson (Narrator) on audio—my goal is to listen to the series as preparation for the finale this fall, so I need to get moving.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead by Sara Gran, fresh from the Down the TBR series. My next audiobook was going to be the next DC Smith book, but I just listened to the narrator, Gildart Jackson, read the Alex Verus book, and I need some more distance from that before I can hear him do something else, so I think it’ll be the last Eddie LaCrosse novel He Drank, and Saw the Spider by Alex Bledsoe, Stefan Rudnicki (Narrator) on audiobook.

I’m reading Fake by Roz Kay for a Tour on Friday and am listening to Game of Cages by Harry Connolly, Daniel Thomas May (Narrator) on audiobook (I’ve failed for 3 days out of the last 5 trying to come up with a blog post about the first two in this series, yet I push on with another).

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished (and was devastated by) S. A. Crosby’s Blacktop Wasteland and Night and Silence by Seanan McGuire, Mary Robinette Kowal (Narrator) on audio, I’ve almost caught up with this series on audio and am picking up such more this time around (obviously).

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Chasing the Pain by Matthew Iden—looking forward to dipping into this series—and I have no idea what audiobook is up next.
