I’ve finished 4 print books in 4 days (probably not going to make it 5 in 5), which is a great feeling—it’s been too long
since I’ve done something like that. It’s even better that I’ve enjoyed all the books I’ve been finishing—tis a good roll to be on.

I’m reading Nic Blake and the Remarkables: The Manifestor Prophecy by Angie Thomas—which is about as far from her previous work as I can imagine. I’m listening to Hammered by Lindsay Buroker, Vivienne Leheny (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Intisar Khanani’s Sunbolt (and had to fight the impulse to move right on to the sequel). Last week, I finished Straight Man by Richard Russo, Sam Freed (Narrator) on audio. It’s as good as I remembered but hits a little differently now that I’m the same age as Hank.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow (after spending more than a month on my “On Deck” list) and my next audiobook should be This Bird Has Flown by Susanna Hoffs, narrated by Susanna Hoffs and Juliet Stevenson.

How’s your reading going lately?

I’d like to say right now that I’m on the verge of life calming down and my regular routines returning—allowing me to get back on track with everything here, but I think I should make sure those chicks make it out of their shell before I start tallying them up. So in the meantime, let’s just take a glance at the WWW for the week, okay?

I’m reading The Winter of Frankie Machine by Don Winslow and am listening to Straight Man by Richard Russo, Sam Freed (Narrator) on audiobook. I’d been thinking about finding time for a re-read of this book lately, and (probably thanks to Lucky Hank) there it was on my library’s new addition shelf, so sure, why not try the audiobook?

What did you recently finish reading?

I had a semi-productive Saturday and was able to finish Kneading Journalism by Tony Ganzer, Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah and the audiobook of Morning Star by Pierce Brown, Tim Gerard Reynolds (Narrator) on audio. Not just a productive day, but a really rewarding day.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the latest Bree Taggert novel, Lie to Her by Melinda Leigh and my next audiobook should be Hammered by Lindsay Buroker, Vivienne Leheny (Narrator), a UF that could be a lot of fun.

How are you starting May?

My reading this week has been greatly reduced (actually didn’t crack a book yesterday at all, a true rarity). Part of that is due to work (just a couple of training days), but the biggest thing is that the Grandcritter has arrived, and I’ve had a hard time focusing on anything that isn’t him. He’s a wonderful little guy, and cuter than everything that’s not Grogu—and even that knight might not be able to compete with the Critter (don’t worry, I’m not going to plaster the page with a bunch of pictures). So, yeah, it turns out something can trump books in this reader’s life. Still, I managed to get almost enough material for this post.

I seem to have taken a break from Kneading Journalism by Tony Ganzer, but I will get back to it today. I’m reading Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah and am listening to Morning Star by Pierce Brown, Tim Gerard Reynolds (Narrator) on audiobook, it’s hard to know which is more brutal—but I’m leaning toward Chain-Gang All-Stars, if only because the future described there is a lot closer to when we are now (and it’s much more likely to happen than Brown’s future).

What did you recently finish reading?

I most recently finished Dave Barry’s Swamp Story, a truly zany story, and The Stench of Honolulu by Jack Handey (Narrator) on audio, which wanted to be zany.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be The Winter of Frankie Machine by Don Winslow and I haven’t even thought about what my next audiobook should be, thankfully, Morning Star is a long one, so I have some time before I have to come up with something.

I’m slowly working and thinking my way through Kneading Journalism by Tony Ganzer. I just started Swamp Story by Dave Barry (which will probably not involve much thinking, but a lot of laughter). I should be wrapping up The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise by Colleen Oakley, Hillary Huber (Narrator) on audiobook, and I’m still trying to figure out what I think about it (but it’s generally positive).

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished the compelling Larry Beinhart’s The Deal Goes Down and the utterly adequate Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation by Stuart Gibbs, Emily Woo Zeller (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the promising-looking Chain Gang All Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. My next audiobook should be a Kenzie and Gennaro novel that I’m fairly ambiguous about, Sacred by Dennis Lehane, Jonathan Davis (Narrator).

Are you working your way through anything good, compelling, or just vaguely interesting?

This is a pretty standard post by me by now. I like doing these–if only because they help me plan…but after Peat Long’s WWW last week, this feels pretty boring. If you haven’t read it yet, you really should.

I just started Ozark Dogs by Eli Cranor, one of my most anticipated books of the year. I’m listening to the funny and sweet How to Examine a Wolverine: More Tales from the Accidental Veterinarian by Philipp Schott, Geet Arora (Narrator) on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Gigi Pandian’s The Raven Thief and Self Help by Ben H. Winters, narrated by Wil Wheaton and Ron Perlman on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be either Bait by D.I. Jolly or Kneading Journalism by Tony Ganzer (maybe I’ll tackle both at once). My next audiobook should be Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation by Stuart Gibbs, Emily Woo Zeller (Narrator).

Didn’t I just do one of these two days ago? I guess not. Thankfully, there’s been some movement here and the books have done a better job of changing than they have lately. Hope I can keep that up!

I’m reading the follow-up to last year’s Pay Dirt Road, Hard Rain by Samantha Jayne Allen, and am having a blast listening to All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai (Narrator) on audiobook. I remembered it being great, but not this great.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Seanan McGuire’s Backpacking Through Bedlam and I finally bit the bullet and tried All Systems Red by Martha Wells, Kevin R. Free (Narrator) on audio (and then wondered why I waited).

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be The Raven Thief by Gigi Pandian (I’m already getting excited about the food) and my next audiobook should be The Widower’s Two-Step by Rick Riordan, Tom Stechschulte (Narrator).

How are you kicking off April?

Much of what I put in the post last week got derailed by cold-induced cognitive impairment, so you’re not imagining things—a lot of this is a rerun. But my cognition is back to my typical level of impairment—I’ll leave it to you to gauge how bad that is—so things should start moving here soon.

I’m reading Tower of Babel by Michael Sears, and am learning how much I can care about real estate shenanigans (a lot). I’m about to finish the delightful You Took The Last Bus Home: The Poems of Brian Bilston by Brian Bilston. I’m also listening to Space: 1969 by Bill Oakley, narrated by Natasha Lyonne and a lot of other people on audiobook.

I just finished Harry L-B’s Billy in Space and Adult Assembly Required by Abbi Waxman, Emily Rankin (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Backpacking Through Bedlam by Seanan McGuire and my next audiobook should be Vanished by Kat Richardson, Mia Barron (Narrator).

How are you ending the month?

I’ve started to worry that these posts are becoming like those recipe blogs where the blogger goes on and on for ages before getting to sharing their Aunt Bea’s recipe for Peach Cobbler (the secret ingredient is lard—with a generous splash of bourbon). So let’s skip the preamble and get to the WWW Wednesday.

I just finished the M.W. Craven’s Fearless—it’s going to be huge this summer. The last audiobook I finished was The Green Ember by S.D. Smith, Joel Clarkson (Narrator).

Earlier today, I finished Quenby Olson’s Miss Percy’s Pocket Guide (to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons), an utterly charming read. I also recently finished Profiles in Ignorance: How America’s Politicians Got Dumb and Dumber by Andy Borowitz on audio, it was odd for Borowitz to be so earnest–more of that to come.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the ARC of Fearless by M.W. Craven (actually, it should be something I’ve agreed to read for someone else, but it’s been sitting on my shelf ignored for too long, I can’t take its plaintive cries for attention anymore) and my next audiobook should be Golden Son by Pierce Brown, Tim Gerard Reynolds (Narrator).

Are you reading anything good?

It feels like Greg Brady has hidden his Tiki Idol necklace somewhere on my person the last couple of days–work, blog, personal stuff, etc have all suffered an acute case of Murphy’s Law. Nothing major, just a whole lot of little things are ganging up on me at once (or so it seems). Hence this gets posted (and composed) 24 hours after I should’ve composed and scheduled it. And the other two things that were supposed to go up today? ummm, well…
