I’m reading the ARC for The Twelve Monotasks: Do One Thing at a Time to Do Everything Better by Thatcher Wine and am listening to Super Powereds: Year 1 by Drew Hayes, Kyle McCarley (Narrator) on audiobook.
What did you recently finish reading?
I just finished Rick Riordan’s Daughter of the Deep (which was exactly what I needed to keep me reading his stuff) and The Astonishing Mistakes of Dahlia Moss by Max Wirestone, Lauren Fortgang (Narrator) on audio (a different narrator for this book, and maybe a better one).
What do you think you’ll read next?
My next book should be All the Lonely People by Mike Gayle—it’s been over a decade since I’ve read Gayle, and am eager to see how he’s developed. Wrapping up my Alex Verus revisit just in time for the finale coming out in December, my next audiobook should be Forged by Benedict Jacka, Gildart Jackson (Narrator).
How are you spending this holiday week (if you’re in the U.S.)? I’m curious about the rest of the world, too, but it feels awkward to ask how you’re spending a perfectly generic week…

I”m currently up to Book 12 of Milton’s “Paradise Lost.” Adam is blaming Eve for the whole mess but the Archangel Michael reminds him that it was his choice to eat the fruit when she offered it, and to put his love for Eve ahead of his duty to God. Hooray Michael!
Also reading Laurence Durrell’s “Justine”, because my son recommended it highly. I find it turgid, but will keep trying. Also reading Walter Moseley’ s short story collection “An Awkward Black Man”, which is quite humorous in a black (no pun intended) way. Also a very arcane book called “The Scholars” by Wu Ching Tzu which I picked up out of a Little Free Library because it was old and I’m interested in China.
Just finished reading Charlotte Gilman’s very eerie “The Yellow Wallpaper” together with the other stories in a very short collection. Finished Alex Wagner’s “Future Face” though it was very poorly written and edited, with very little point. Also finished Anne Tyler’s “Ladder of Years” and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

I’ve never been able to connect with Moseley’s stuff–and I’m sure that’s my loss. Maybe if I try that collection (which sounds great–reading the description on his site now). The Scholars sounds interesting, too. What did you think?
