Last week, the way I phrased things made it seem like I was slogging my way through The Hero Interviews—I’m not. I’m working through it slowly while I do other things. A long book + multitasking= it takes a bit to get through, that’s all.

With that little bit of housekeeping, let’s move on to this week’s WWW Wednesday.

This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words—and shown to me by Aurore-Anne-Chehoke at Diary-of-a-black-city-girl.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Easy enough, right?

What are you currently reading?

I’m about to finish the very amusing The Hero Interviews by Andi Ewington and the ARC for Scratching the Flint by Vern Smith (a book answering the question why shouldn’t Toronto have noir?). I also am listening to Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz, narrated by Samantha Bond, Allan Corduner on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Josef Matulich’s The Silk Empress and Underground by Kat Richardson, Mia Barron (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the next book in The Azure Archipelago trilogy, The Foundling, the Heist, and the Volcano by K. R. R. Lockhaven. My next audiobook should be more madcapery with Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano, Angela Dawe.

  1. I am currently reading “The Portable Dorothy Parker”, a collection of short stories, poems, and critical reviews. I read a few poems, then a short story, and maybe a review. Parker is best taken in small doses.

Also reading Isak Dinesen’s “Seven Gothic Tales”. I have three to go. And “The Roosevelt Myth”, debunking FDR’s claim to greatness. And just starting on “Selected Poems” by Rabindranath Tagore, another one of those Nobel Prize winners that US readers don’t get much exposure to. And “The Brothers Karamazov” is still on my iPad, and I expect to be on a train for ac ouple of hours next week, so I might get as far as Grushenka.

I just finished re-reading “Nerilka’s Story”, one of the “Pern” stories by Anne McCaffrey. Actually it wasn’t until I went to post a review on Amazon that I discovered I had read the book before. That’s how forgettable it was, but it was an escape read.

Next I plan to read Jonathan Franzen’s “The Corrections” which everyone was reading a few years ago but I missed.

I’ve loved Parker for years–and yeah, best in small doses.

I didn’t read Corrections, either. I did pick up Freedom, though. It’s going to take a lot for me to give him another try. But it’d likely be Corrections that would get me.

      • You didn’t care for “Freedom”? That bodes ill.

It’s been several years, so my memory is sketchy. I thought parts of it were great. There was always at least one character that I was really invested in (not always the same character). But yeah, overall, I was dissatisfied.
