Barebones WWW Wednesdays—10/7/26

So…yeah. Following the surgery (see the Saturday Miscellany post that wasn’t), we need to stay near the hospital for a month or so. And I apparently left my laptop power cord at home. Making my ability to post is somewhat limited. I mentioned how I don’t get along with the phone app, right?

Therefore, no links, no covers. Just words today. And it will still take me 3x as long to put together than it usually does 🙂

My Gen X is showing.

The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Seems easy enough, right? Let’s take a peek at this week’s answers:

What are you currently reading?

The Key to a Killer by Olivia Blacke—it’s time for the duo of Ruby and Cordelia to get serious and solve Cordelia’s murder.

The Confederacy Myth: How an Insurrection of Slaveholders Tried to Destroy the United States by Connor Williams—this brief history of the Civil War focuses on under-cutting the notion of a noble CSA, replacing it with a morally bankrupt rebellion being combatted by the United States. Not a comfortable read in any way. (But a good one)

What did you recently finish reading?

Since I last checked in, I’ve finished:

Fallen Star by Lee Goldberg—a solid Eve Ronin novel. Sets up some good potential changes for the future, too.

The Jungle of Carabanana by Kate McKinnon, read by Kate McKinnon and Emily Lynne—this was the perfect way to end this silly series. I’m so glad that I gave it a shot. Will definitely be revisiting.

Bark Humbug by David Rosenfelt—this was a good one. Do not try to outsmart Amdy Carpenter.

Charmed Beast by M.K. Felix—short, sweet, got the job done.

Small Gods by Terry Pratchett—If i were to rank the 5 Discworld novels I’e read, this would be solidly number 3. Funny, good plot, solid themes. Better than the first 2, not up to the City Watch level. Shame I’ll miss the Book Club for it.

Suppression of Powers by JCM Berne—this one hit the spot. (As i expected)

Paper Murder by Ian Robinson—Robinson brings this series to a satisfying close in a tense thriller.

ande non est incisum

Nunc hoc in marmore non est incisum

What do you think you’ll read next?

This is a really good question. I’m really going for vibes/mood more than anything at the moment. Sorry reading challenges/schedules. I also just grabbed a stack of books in the rush out of the house and didn’t stop and think much)

I think my next couple of reads are going to be:

Castaway Cays: Curse of the Sea Serpent by Amy Maren Rice—a good MG read will be refreshing.

Runaway Lyrics by C.O. Bonham—Charmed Beast reminded me how much fun a good fairy-tale retelling can be. Time to give this a shot.

Seveneves by Neal Stephenson—I won’t be able to make the Book Club meeting for it, but I should still do the reading (I’ve got the time, and I’m intrigued).

How’re things going with you?
