I’m reading the ARC for NYPD Red 7: The Murder Sorority by Marshall Karp (an actual paper ARC, it’s been ages since I got my hands on one of those) and I’m listening to All These Worlds by Dennis E. Taylor, Ray Porter (Narrator) on audiobook, I’ve barely scratched the surface and Taylor has already upped the stakes more than I expected.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Andrew Sean Greer’s Less and Screwed by Eoin Colfer, John Keating (Narrator) on audio. I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve listened to and read two books with such divergent feels simultaneously.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Desert Star by Michael Connelly and my next audiobook should be Missing Pieces by Peter Grainger, Gildart Jackson (Narrator) it’d be easy to draw a lot of parallels between these series at this point in their runs, but I know the voices are so different, that I’m not worried about them being too similar.

Have you been reading anything interesting lately?

So life interfered last week and I’ve had to skip two books on my schedule so I can meet some commitments. I’m not sure when I’m going to be able to double back and get those I skipped, either. I tell ya, I should just retire early and do this full-time. The only thing that stands in my way are trivialities like my need for food, shelter, an Internet connection, and the ability to buy books.

I’m reading Kestrel’s Dance by Misty Massey for some high seas adventure and am listening to Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire, Emily Bauer (Narrator) on audiobook—I’d really forgotten how fun Verity can be.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished James Brayken’s The Veiled Edge of Contact—look for a Q&A with the author soon (shortly after I whittle down the 3 dozen things I want to ask him). I also just wrapped up Poltergeist by Kat Richardson, Mia Barron (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should either be Gardens by Benedict Jacka or Terry’s Crew by Terry Crews and Cory Thomas (it depends on how long Kestrel’s Dance takes me). My next audiobook should be Screwed by Eoin Colfer, John Keating (Narrator).

What about you?

For the second week in a row, I find myself spinning my wheels and staring at blank screens when it comes time to work on posts here. It’s starting to get to me. Hopefully by the time this posts, that sentence will be out-of-date, but I’m not counting on it. I’ve been reading and listening to plenty of things to give me material to write about, as you can see in this WWW Wednesday!

I’m reading the genre-bending debut, The Veiled Edge of Contact by James Brayken, and am listening to the new Cassie Dewell novel, Treasure State by C.J. Box, Christina Delaine (Narrator), on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Julian Barnes’ The Sense of an Ending—and will be chewing on it for some time—and The Vexed Generation by Scott Meyer, Luke Daniels (Narrator) on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the second Frost Files installment, Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air by Jackson Ford, (a few years too late for my taste) and my next audiobook should be the second Greywalker novel, Poltergeist by Kat Richardson, Mia Barron (Narrator).

How are you coasting into November?

I’ve been trying to get something posted every day this week about the upcoming Robert Crais novel, Racing the Light, and keep failing. Despite being excited about the book, when it comes time to write, I just stare at the screen for a bit. So, that’s how my week’s going. What about you?

I’m going to take a quick break from wringing my gray matter for whatever droplets I can to share this WWW Wednesday because it’s Wednesday, and that’s what we do around here.

I’m reading The Bullet that Missed by Richard Osman, which is at least as entertaining as the previous books in the series, and am listening to Rebel with a Clause: Tales and Tips from a Roving Grammarian by Ellen Jovin (Narrator) on audiobook, which is almost as entertaining as it thinks it is.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Lyndsay Faye’s Jane Steele (yes, I finally read it!) and Declassified: A Low-Key Guide to the High-Strung World of Classical Music by Arianna Warsaw-Fan Rauch on audio, which I should probably get on paper so I can refer to it.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the second Booking Agents novel, Flight Risk by Cherie Priest (which is what I said last week, but I think I mean it this time) and my next audiobook should be the latest Magic 2.0 book, The Vexed Generation by Scott Meyer, Luke Daniels (Narrator).

I’m racing through Racing the Light by Robert Crais –this man’s writing is so smooth, you can’t help it–and I’m listening to the amusing The World’s Worst Assistant by Sona Movsesian on audiobook.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Noelle Holten’s 6 Ripley Avenue and Slaying Monsters for the Feeble by Annette Marie, Cris Dukehart (Narrator) on audio. One of those was good, the other was good enough.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the second Booking Agents novel, Flight Risk by Cherie Priest, and my next audiobook should be South Korean thriller, The Old Woman with the Knife by Gu Byeong-mo, Chi-Young Kim (Translator), Nancy Wu (Narrator).

Read anything good lately? Right now?

So, like I said Saturday, I spent most of the day with my daughter in the hospital, with very little to do. So I read 2.3 books while she was getting tested, in surgery, etc. (I could’ve gotten closer to finishing the third book, but I took a break for a bit). I only brought one book since I didn’t think I’d be there long, but I did have the Kindle app on my phone–that resulted in me blowing up my schedule–but I did end up reading a book that I was afraid I couldn’t start until November! Obviously, the important thing is that she got the help she needed and is fine now–but I can’t complain about a little personal bonus reading time.

Anyway, it’s time for WWW Wednesday, so why don’t I shut up and get on with it?

I’m reading the fun sequel Amari and the Great Game by B. B. Alston. I’m listening to Anonymous by Elizabeth Breck, Rebecca Gibel (Narrator) on audiobook, because Libro.fm had it for a ridiculous price last month and I couldn’t help myself.

What did you recently finish reading?

By hour 17 Saturday, I needed, something light, so I pulled Jo Platt’s Working It Out off of Mt. TBR. And I just wrapped up Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be Good Talk by Mira Jacob (which I picked up off a comment left on a WWW post here semi-recently) and my next audiobook should be Slaying Monsters for the Feeble by Annette Marie, Cris Dukehart (Narrator).

It seems like my library has decided to bring me every book I’ve put on hold in the last three months at once. I’m drowning in books to read–and don’t get me started on books I pre-ordered months ago that are gathering dust. On top of that, it feels like I’m getting interrupted and distracted every time I sit down to read or blog. Basically, “I feel thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread” (a few days too late for Hobbit Day). Humbug.

On the other hand, it’s been so long since I read/listened to a dud, that I don’t remember what it was, and am having a great time with these books.

Anyway, here’s this week’s WWW Wednesday, as I chronicle my attempt to tread water in the middle of this flood.

I’m really enjoying, but making slug-like progress in, Station Eternity by Mur Lafferty and am digging into For We Are Many by Dennis E. Taylor, Ray Porter (Narrator) on audiobook. And boy howdy, is that title correct, I’m having trouble keeping track of the “many” POVs.

What did you recently finish reading?

I was apparently in a subtitle mood last week with a couple of fun and informative books celebrating some of my favorite books/shows: Danielle Higley’s The Stories Behind the Stories: The Remarkable True Tales Behind Your Favorite Kid’s Books and Directed by James Burrows: Five Decades of Stories from the Legendary Director of Taxi, Cheers, Frasier, Friends, Will & Grace, and More by James Burrows with Eddy Friedfeld and Read by James Burrows and Danny Campbell on audio.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the ARC for Santa’s Little Yelpers by David Rosenfelt (moved up the list to make sure I hit the publication date) and my next audiobook should be Heads in Beds: A Reckless Memoir of Hotels, Hustles, and So-Called Hospitality by Jacob Tomsky, Jacob Tomsky (Narrator), something I stumbled onto at the library that caught my eye.

How are you closing out this ninth month?

I knew I’d been distracted lately, but I just saw how many comments I haven’t approved/replied to over the last couple of weeks. I guess I’ve been really distracted, I’d better work on that tonight (assuming I get the chance). In the meantime, it’s time for WWW Wednesday!

I just started Hell and Back by Craig Johnson—it looks like Walt’s off on another supernatural adventure. I’m about to finish listening to the return of DC Smith in  The Truth by Peter Grainger, Gildart Jackson (Narrator) on audiobook.

I just finished James J. Butcher’s Dead Man’s Hand—which was as good as I’d hoped—and Big Red Tequila by Rick Riordan, Tom Stechschulte (Narrator) on audio—it was nice to remember what pre-Percy Jackson Riordan was like.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next book should be the SF/Mystery hybrid, Station Eternity by Mur Lafferty, and my next audiobook should be the essay collection Movies (And Other Things) by Shea Serrano, Mario Toscano (Narrator).
